April 2008 Archives
Members of the Association were involved in the community cleanup of the school quarter, where Sandbrook Park meets the railway line.
A large number of helpers cleared the site of rubbish, Japanese knotweed and all manner of disgarded household items, from coffee tables to bicycles.
It is hoped that planting and landscaping will be unertaken at the site once the roots of the Japanese knotweed have been treated by specialist workers.
Those involved included members of the local churches, the girl guides and the conservation volunteers.
Chris from the East Belfast Community Development Agency co-ordinated the event, and the cleanup was a great success.
The EBCDA have litter pickers and black bags available to borrow and it is hoped that further cleanups will be organised in the future.
The images below show a map of the area and photographs of the work being undertaken.

EBCDA in partnership with the http://www.cvni.org/ are organising a cleanup of the school garden quarter adjacent to the path that leads to Victoria Park. It has become overgrown with Japanese Knotweed and rubbish that passers by have been dumping into the site. A builders skip will be placed at the site, and we will help fill it.
The path connects our area to Victoria Park, so let's help make a difference.
It would be wise to wear old clothes and gloves. Once the area has been cleared it is hoped that we will be able to do some planting and make the area more attractive.
The cleanup starts at 10am on Saturday April 26th, and any help will be greatly received. Even if it is for 30 mins, please come along.
